Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson is comparing this current Liverpool side to the ‘Invincibles’ and thinks the Reds achievements will be bigger.
Former Arsenal star Paul Merson believes that the achievements of this Liverpool side will be bigger than those of the Gunners’ famous ‘Invincibles’ side.
Merson is bringing up the fact that Liverpool are only 13 games shy of equalling the record streak for number of games unbeaten in the Premier League.

The Reds currently have a 36 game unbeaten streak – over a calendar year – and will equal the Arsenal 49 game record if they remain undefeated for the next 13 matches.
However, that 13th match is on April 4th against Man City at the Etihad – adding a potential other layer to the importance of that match.
The John Challies of the Liverpool ECHO quotes the Sky Sports pundit as saying:
"“If Liverpool do go unbeaten, it is a massive feat, and it will be a bigger achievement. Arsenal never had a Manchester City beside them, trying to avoid defeat against them twice in a season.”"
This Liverpool side is special. Champions of Europe. Champions of the World. Records are irrelevant at the moment. All that really matters is to become Champions of England again – for the first time in 30 years.
If the side are undefeated in the Premier League on April 4th there is a good chance they will already be champions or virtually guaranteed to be so. Perhaps then Klopp and the players can aim to put their names in the history books.
Though I suspect that if the Reds are still competing in the Champions League – and the Premier League is won or virtually won – then record chasing will go out of the window in order to pursue becoming back-to-back Champions of Europe for the second time in the club’s long history.
Jurgen Klopp’s men will head to Tottenham Hotspur this weekend hoping to make it 37 game unbeaten and maintain their commanding lead at the top of the Premier League table.
