Liverpool fans have praised the work of sporting director Michael Edwards but they think he made an error when he sold Danny Ings to Southampton.
There are very few blemishes on the transfer record of Michael Edwards at Liverpool. The players he has bought and sold almost all look like incredible deals in retrospect. But fans are questioning the sale of Danny Ings to Southampton.
The former Anfield player has been tearing it up on the South coast – he bagged the winning goal against Leicester City on Saturday to help the Reds title challenge and boost his total to 14 goals in the Premier League this season.

He currently has more goals to his name than any of the Liverpool forwards. There are a few fans suggesting that the club shouldn’t have sold him.
However, most understand he had to leave to get first team minutes – there is not much time available for anyone not named Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino. Especially with the legend, Divock Orgi still at the club.
The current feeling is that the £20 million secured for Ings is starting to look like a bad deal for Liverpool. Ings is second in the Premier League golden boot race and will soon start to attract other suitors from around the division.
The Reds saw first hand on Saturday how Tottenham Hotspur need another striking option with Harry Kane ruled out until April. Perhaps they will venture into the market to snap up Ings – though Southampton will demand a giant fee for a player who is almost single-handedly keeping them in the top division.
Here’s what the LFC fans are saying:
Liverpool have already added to their frontline in this transfer window with the signing of Takumi Minamino. The Japanese forward has experience playing on either wing and plays in the ‘Firmino’ number nine role for his national side.
