Gary Neville admits Man Utd have been knocked off their perch
Liverpool have knocked Manchester United off their perch.
This is what former Red Devils legend Gary Neville has said as he discussed what next season’s Premier League might look like.
And while he discussed the title challenge Liverpool might face from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, he failed to mention Man Utd – wrote Elliot Jackson in the Echo.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has overseen a side that are on 45 points while Jurgen Klopp’s men are sitting pretty at the top of the table on 82.
Sir Alex Ferguson once boasted about knocking Liverpool off their perch, but now the tables have turned and you can be confident in thinking the same has happened to the Mancs.
In not even taking the time to talk about his side, Neville has implicitly confirmed that Man U are not longer a threat to the supremacy of Liverpool.
He said that City will be the main challengers, and will have a much better campaign than the one they just experienced. It must gall him to talk in such glowing terms about his cross-town rivals.

"“City have dipped below that standard, for many different reasons. They’ve been unable to sustain the levels they were at previously.“They lost Vincent Kompany, Laporte got injured, they’re all factors and then Liverpool’s incredible season.“I think next season City will be back to where they’re challenging Liverpool much closer.”"
You can’t bridge a gap of nearly 40 points in just one season, and the signs show that Klopp isn’t going to take his foot of the gas any time soon.
In fact, with an Academy turning out prospects like Curtis Jones and Neco Williams and a youth recruitment network bringing in Harvey Elliott, things are looking bright for the future.
The manager has never been able to build a squad that isn’t picked off by rivals. At Mainz and Borussia Dortmund, his best players were sold or left on a free every season. That won’t happen at Liverpool.
Despite the transfer rumours and the noise linking stars like Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah with moves away from Anfield, there isn’t much danger to their future at the club – while you can’t see Fabinho, Virgil van Dijk or Alisson leaving any time soon.
All the building blocks for an empire are being laid into place by Klopp and his tireless team, and Neville has seen the writing on the wall.
It doesn’t look good for Manchester United.
