Liverpool want Lautaro Martinez.
Marca’s Hugo Cerezo and Juan Castro, translated by Billy Munday, wrote about the links between the Argentine and Anfield.
Barcelona were thought to have this one in the bag, but there have been numerous problems and matters are now complicated.
They have lost a huge amount of money due to coronavirus and that could impact their ability to sign Lautaro Martinez, which would open to the door to Liverpool.
It must be stressed that Cerezo and Castro mentioned the link with Merseyside in passing. Timo Werner has gone to Chelsea, and theoretically that leaves space in the squad for another forward.
Jadon Sancho could be the man to fill that, and there were some very interesting updates on his future over the weekend.
With a price tag in excess of €100 million and other clubs circling the waters, Martinez is no longer a cheap option. But he would be a good one.

According to SmarterScout, he’s got incredibly high numbers for recovery and for shooting, while his disruption, dribbling and receiving in the box are at an elite level.
He’s only scored nine non-penalty goals all season, but he’s involved in 60% of Inter Milan’s movements that end in a goal and has shown improvement throughout his time in Italy.
As a young option, he’s only 22-years-old, this would be a game changer. Martinez has the work rate and the ability to lead the line from the front in an offensive and defensive capacity and has clear room to grow.
He’s embarking on his third season outside South America and already has the best clubs in the world chasing his signature. That release clause of €111 million is no joke and it shows how highly he’s rated in Milan.
But, yet again, this is a deal that would require Liverpool to abandon the principles that they hold dear. Klopp has spoken about the responsibility that comes with the club’s standing in society, and spending that much money runs contrary to that.
But still, it’s nice to dream.
