Could Liverpool sign Jadon Sancho next season?

The will he, won’t he drama of Manchester United and Jadon Sancho has been the long-winded transfer story of the summer so far.

For months it has seemed nailed on that the English superstar would be rocking The Red Devils kit for the 2020/21 season, however, negotiations have stalled in recent days with reports in England’s Express claiming that Sancho will be going nowhere, for now.

Now, I may be a little blind when it comes to my beloved Liverpool FC. Some might even say I’m a little crazy or that I shouldn’t let my imagination and bias get the better of me. And even though I know they’re right, for some reason my LFC senses are off on one and I can clearly see a Michael Edwards transfer masterclass about to unfold. Don’t believe me? Just hear me out.

Utd seem to be willing to pay close to the ‎€110 million asking price to snaffle their number one target. Despite this agreement, the transfer is yet to be completed with Sancho even heading to Switzerland to join Borussia Dortmund for their pre-season training.

"“We are planning with Sancho. He will play for us next season. The decision is definitive. I believe that answers all questions,” said Dortmund Sporting Director, Michael Zorc in a recent interview with The Express."

There were even reports that Sancho actually had his heart set on a move to Anfield rather than Old Trafford and he could be willing to spend another 12 months in Germany to get the deal he wants. Liverpool haven’t made a massive money signing since the big three of Alisson Becker, Virgil Van Dijk, and Fabinho all joined us in 2018.

Since then we have had have won a couple of trophies and stockpiled some cash with the new Nike deal etc. The only reason we are not spending that cash now is because there is uncertainty surrounding our future income after the COVID-19 global pandemic.

But as this settles and the future becomes more clear I fully expect Liverpool to go big on a forward next year. Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino will be another year older and the time will be right to replace one of them with fresh world-class talent so why not Jadon Sancho?

Liverpool could literally put the whole thing in place now by letting both the club and player know of their intentions. A deal could be verbally struck that sees Dortmund keep a key player for another year with the guarantee that a buyer is ready to pay their current asking price in 12 months’ time.

This also gives them time to find a suitable replacement while allowing new signing Jude Bellingham to watch and learn from Sancho while he settles down overseas. Should Liverpool pull out of the deal for whatever reason then a bidding war between other suitors will surely ensue.

All in all, it’s a win win situation for everyone, Liverpool get their star, the player gets his dream move and Dortmund get another year from a world-class player as well as big money to boot.

I could be wrong, but there’s a lot about this opportunity that makes sense and I sincerely hope that Liverpool’s relative silence in the transfer market is building up to something massive.
