Liverpool have been handed a brilliant update on the fitness of forward Diogo Jota.

It’s gone from bad to worse for the Reds this season. Injuries to key players were coupled with poor results and a slide down the Premier League table.

Key player’s indifferent form has effected the club badly and Jurgen Klopp is overseeing a team that’s currently marooned outside the top four.

Liverpool could welcome Diogo Jota back soon

If Liverpool miss out on those treasured Champions League places, it’s going to have a hugely negative effect on the summer transfer window.

Elite players aren’t going to want to move to Merseyside to play in the Europa League, even if Klopp is heading up the team.

But hopefully, Diogo Jota’s fitness update will provide a little glimmer of hope and allow Liverpool to bounce back from those damaging four league losses in a row at Anfield.

More from Rush The Kop

The Telegraph has reported that the Portuguese international is set to return to first-team training this week. Jota has been missing from action since early December and have won just four games since the former Wolves man injured his knee in the Champions League game against Midtjylland.

Jota will need to prove his fitness via several training sessions, said the report, and he is due to join in on first-team training on Wednesday.

"“Liverpool next play on Sunday against Sheffield United. In normal circumstances that would be considered too soon for his return after a two month lay-off with Chelsea’s visit to Anfield the following week looking a more realistic prospect.”"

Liverpool don’t play until the end of the month and that’s against Sheffield United, the league’s worst team. If the Reds don’t manage to beat Chris Wilder’s side, there’ll be massive repercussions.

The Blades have the worst attack in the Premier League, and this could be the time to give Ben Davies his debut. Jordan Henderson is also out injured, so Klopp will need to re-jig his back line once again.

With Jota back in the fold, we could be looking at a bright new dawn.
