Wolves striker Raul Jimenez has made a claim about Liverpool stars Virgil van Dijk and Roberto Firmino.

The Mexico international has experienced an excellent Premier League season and has drawn parallels with Bobby because of the overlapping styles of both forwards.

With 13 goals and six assists, Raul Jimenez has been a star for Wolves this campaign and puts it down, in part, to wanting to be like our Brazilian superstar.

"Spanish publication AS reported that he said: “I also think that I have some similarities with Roberto Firmino and Sergio Agüero. They are both fantastic forwards and I try to copy some of their qualities.”"

Anyone who watched Jimenez play won’t be surprised about that. The ex-Atletico Madrid man runs himself into the ground every game and because of that demonic intensity, Nuno Santos has made him a crucial part of his Midlands success story.

Wolves lost twice to Liverpool this season as they fell to 1-0 and 2-1 defeats as the Mexican found it difficult to get the better of the Merseyside defence.

A big part of that is Virgil van Dijk – a player who the forward considers the ‘best defender in the world and the hardest opponent I’ve had in the league.’

We’ve always known Big Virg is a good player but it’s nice to have that validation from outside sources. That makes it at least two top flight forwards who have mentioned the Dutchman by name as one of the most difficult centre-backs to come up against.

Troy Deeney famously hates coming up against Liverpool for this very reason, although that didn’t stop the Hornets get the better of Jurgen Klopp and crushing dreams of going unbeaten this season.

Wolves have been punching above their weight this season as they’ve managed to deal with a tough Europa League campaign and stay extremely competitive in the Premier League.

The form of Jimenez has been a big part of that, and if he continues performing to those levels there are bound to be a few big clubs sniffing around the Mexican – especially if he can continue to channel the spirit of Firmino.
